UBC Thunderbots Robotic Soccer Team
Administrative Captain (May 08 - Present)
- Working with a team of undergraduate engineers and computer science students to create a team of autonomous soccer playing robots for the International Robocup Competition and Conference
- Competed in 2009 in Graz, Austria
- Aiming to compete in June 2010 in Singapore
- Worked with industry and the university to obtain forty thousand dollars in sponsorship and grants in 2008 and over $15000 so far in 2009.
- Spearheaded recruitment efforts to bring out over eighty students to a robotics open house in 2008 and over 100 students out in 2009
- Worked on all non-technical elements of the team including press conferences, media, publications, advertising, team events, recruitment, fundraising and faculty relations
EUS Spirit Coordinator (Apr 09 - Present)
- Organized over 30 events and managed 50 volunteers for E-Week
- Helped with marketing so that there was consistently high turnout for all events including Frosh Week, E-Week and Christmas Carolling
- Ensured a high quality of events while keeping under budget
- Expanded events at both Frosh Week and E-Week to cater to a wider audience of students
EUS Vice President Academic Apr 08 – Apr 09
- Offered more than double the number of exam review courses offered for tutoring in the previous year, including second year courses, while keeping under budget, bringing out hundreds of students
- Co-organized the first ever University Trivia competition ‘Genius Bowl’ which allowed over 15 teams to compete in knowledge and academics while having fun
- Expanded the First Year Clubroom Crawl, an event to help first year engineers decide their department, to be an 100+ people event, doubling the size from the previous year
- Worked with peers to establish the first ever E-Team, an engineering peer program to help academic and professional student development where needed
- Brought in an engineering scholarship by creating an endowment, offered by the EUS to student leaders who help the engineering community positively
EUS Executive Publicity Representative (Apr 07 – Apr 08)
- Established a significantly higher standard in advertising within the EUS not only with better posters and more effective facebook use and in class announcements, but promoting the importance of visibility within the core volunteers and establishing marketing plans
- Quadrupled yearbook sales and reduced costs per book by $60
